Dave, my Farrier (and riding instructor), came out to the farm today to trim the horses' hooves. We started with Jasper, who is a bit touchy about having his feet done and was acting up a bit. He wasn't being bad, just jumpy and not paying much attention to the work of standing still and being seen to. Within five minutes Dave used a plastic flag on a stick to calmly get Jasper to stand like a statue. The little puck was watching him like a child locked on Sesame Street, intrigued and curious. I watched in awe. I asked him, "How did you ever learn to do this?" and he turned to me laughing and said, "Horses taught me."
